A plant used for culinary purposes but which is also very decorative. It has large, soft looking grey-green leaves. In some summers it will oblige with columnar flowering spikes of lilac flowers. It forms a lovely foliage plant for the summer but tends to look a bit sad during the winter months.. Sage is more commonly seen in the herb, rather than the ornamental garden.. Sage was seen as a beneficial herb and the name Salvia is derived from Latin word salvus which means safe or well.
